Demand For Nepali Workers In Sweden and Malta

August 5, Kathmandu. For the first time, there is a demand for Nepali workers from European countries Sweden and Malta. Some manpower companies have brought in workers from various companies and firms in Sweden and Malta.

The Foreign Employment Promotion Board has said that institutional labor can be allowed in both the countries. Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Labor Tej Raj Pandey said that the board has recommended to sanction institutional labor at minimum cost.

"As the manpower businessmen have come with demands, the board has recommended that Nepali workers be sent after studying the situation in the country concerned," he said.

According to officials, there is a demand for semi-skilled workers from Sweden and Malta. At present, Nepal's semi-skilled workers go to almost all the Gulf countries.

The Ministry of Labor has stated that the decision will be taken after studying the situation of the country and related companies where the demand for workers has come. "The decision is taken with the opinion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," said Pandey.

Before deciding to sanction labor, the economic, legal and social condition of the country concerned will be studied. Pandey also said that the government would allow the sending of workers only if the overall situation was found to be clear after clarifying the human rights situation, treatment of migrant workers, wage rates, labor-friendly labor laws and other issues.

One manpower has brought demand of more than 200 Nepali workers from Sweden. According to a source in the Department of Foreign Employment, two-thirds of the manpower has demanded more than 150 workers from Malta.

The process of opening the labor permit was started after the manpower brought the demand institutionally. The board has recommended that the manpower should not be charged more than Rs 10,000 for sending workers there.

If the decision is made according to this recommendation, the implementation of free visa and free ticket will start in European countries as it has been implemented in the Gulf.
